Occupational Medicals & Medical Surveillance / Medical Surveillance
Medical surveillance services for workplace exposure risks.
Medical surveillance helps employers monitor the health of employees who are exposed to occupational hazards throughout their employment. While a single medical examination records an employee’s health at one point in time, medical surveillance follows relevant health indicators over time.
A medical surveillance programme may include periodic clinical assessments, biological monitoring or medical tests. The programme should be linked to the hazards identified in the workplace, the employee’s exposure and the physical demands of the job.
Monitoring employee health over time.
A medical surveillance programme may begin with a baseline examination that records the employee’s health before or near the start of exposure. Periodic medicals can then monitor relevant indicators during employment, while an exit medical provides a final record when employment or exposure ends.
Depending on the occupational risk, medical surveillance may include:
- Audiometric testing for noise exposure
- Spirometry for respiratory hazards
- Occupational chest X-rays
- Biological monitoring for selected substances
- Vision screening for safety-critical work
- Physical examinations and fitness assessments
Following results over time allows occupational health practitioners to identify changes that require attention. Accurate records demonstrate that appropriate monitoring has taken place, while confidential employee information must be managed correctly.
Surveillance that fits the workforce.
We support medical surveillance through clinic, mobile and on-site services. Employers can coordinate periodic examinations around workforce numbers and site requirements.
Mobile delivery allows industrial employers to screen employee groups at the workplace without arranging travel to an external clinic. Clinic-based appointments remain available for individual assessments.
