Employment medical examinations for job-specific placement.

An employment medical examination helps an employer understand a prospective employee’s medical suitability before placing them in a physically demanding or safety-critical role. A general declaration of health may not identify factors that could affect specific duties or the employee’s ability to work safely around occupational hazards.

IHSS provides pre-employment medicals that assess prospective employees in relation to the positions they are being considered for, supporting informed placement before they begin work.

Screening based on the position

The examination may begin with a review of the person’s medical and occupational history, followed by a physical assessment and basic health measurements. Our existing occupational medical service includes blood pressure, BMI, glucose and urine analysis.

Where the position involves physical demands or possible exposure to workplace hazards, selected tests may also be required. These could include:

  • Audiometric testing
  • Vision screening
  • Spirometry
  • Occupational chest X-rays
  • Biological monitoring
  • Role-specific fitness assessments

Selecting tests according to the work gives the occupational health practitioner relevant information without applying the same examination to every position.

Pre-Employment medical examninations.

For employees entering a medical surveillance programme, a pre-employment medical can also establish baseline information. Future results can then be considered alongside the employee’s health at the start of their employment or occupational exposure.

We conduct individual employment medical examinations at our clinics, while employers placing larger groups can arrange mobile or on-site assessments at an industrial workplace.
